In this English class I must admit I have learned many things that will help me succeed in future English classes that I will take here at Florida State University. The creative aspects of this course such as the media campaign projects really helped make this class enjoyable for many of us. However, this class wouldn’t have been as enjoyable without the creative mind of our instructor Ms. Heather Lang. Ms. Lang has really inspired me and my writing during the duration of this course and has really opened my eyes to the world through extensive writing assignments and research. The research that I was required to do will not only help me with my writing but it will also better prepare me for my career plans as a medical professional. My teacher was truly amazing and I would love to be a student of hers in later classes. When I first read the description of this class before sectioning it I thought it would be like any other ordinary English class for freshman students which consisted of a lot of writing for no apparent reason but for a grade. However, when the course started I was truly amazed at how enjoyable and entertaining the first project was this initial experience set the atmosphere for the rest of the course. So I guess it would be save to say that my initial thought of this class were vastly different in actuality.
Over the semester I am convinced that my writing has become better because of what this course required. With its demanding papers and its strict requirements for detail it has defiantly prepared me for higher level English classes and higher levels or writing . Also with the required reading in this course it has made me a stronger reader and better at paying attention to detail when reading.
Moreover, another aspect of this course that I truly thought was amazing was the community service. Doing community service has always been important to me because of my career plans plus it does my heart justice seeing others happy for your support and love. This community service project has benefited me by allowing me to see how others live and how to be thankful for what I have. The community service aspect of this course is humbling and really makes you thank God for all of the little things that go right in your life because with many people in Tallahassee almost nothing is going right for them in their lives at this moment. Also this class has helped me realize that not everyone who is homeless, has HIV or are financially deprived is a bad or unworthy person. Working with people in different organizations you find out that many of these people are kind and are a lot like you to a certain extent they laugh, joke around and often times have interesting stories to share. I honestly think that this metamorphosis of mental maturity not only occurred for me but also occurred for many students in my class. I believe that after students make this mental change it has made them a better community member who will continue to serve the community outside of the classroom.
Furthermore, this course and latest project has really taught me about myself and my morals, it has really made be a more caring person who better appreciates life in general and the things that I have. With the help of both my teacher and classmates I have really been able to make the best out of this English course and I really appreciate them as both friends and classmates. This course was truly amazing and I wouldn’t rather be amongst any other people than the ones that I have grown to trust and work with.
